I completed the Charloft Cupid Challenge!

Word count: 370! {I managed to stay within the second ring, huzzah! ^_^}

{{A/N: I technically finished this the piece late last night/early this morning—but it was half-one & I didn't feel up to reading it over again & dealing with reformatting before posting. I had the following words in my prompt quiver: curve, novel, marriage of convenience, honey, adore, and struck.}}

"Oh, Mrs Avery's!" Alice cried as she strolled with her mother and sister. The three were in London for the day, shopping for additions to Lorina's trousseau, and already had a number of parcels and boxes between them (and in the carriage).

"You and your fondness for hats," Lorina laughed gently, "But let's stop—I could use something new for the wedding breakfast."

The shopping expedition continues )

Some of you may have already received one of these in the Valentine's box prompt on [livejournal.com profile] charloft, but Alice & I would like to wish all of you a very happy Valentine's Day. (And yes, I did mean to post this earlier; I didn't quite get the chance to today—I probably ought to have posted it last night when I did so on my personal journal.)

Hopefully-more-than-vaguely-Victorian valentine! )

Hope all of you had/are having a lovely day! ^_^
boxofcomfits: (gah!)
Words: 683! (I was quite surprised.)

{{A/N: This just randomly popped into my head last night at around one or so (I suppose that technically means it was this morning). I wrote it down pretty much as you see it here, with only a tiny spot of editing just now. I'm quite pleased that Alice!muse is now inspiring me to write things that aren't prompt based. Hopefully this came out as Carrollian as it seemed in my head (although I'm not too certain on my voices for the other Wonderlanders). Also, this is slightly darker than what I usually write for Alice (but not by much).}}

Cats in the Coffee & Mice in the Tea

Alice was dreaming. In her dream, she was sitting at a long table, presumably at a banquet and surrounded by many of her friends and acquaintances from the Realm.

Strike that. Curiously enough, she was seated at the head of the table.

"Have a biscuit," demanded the Queen of Hearts, sitting at the other end. The indicated biscuits seemed to be topped with what looked suspiciously like snap-dragon-flies.

"Thank you, Your Majesty, but I think I'd prefer these cakes." Alice reached for a platter of fairy-cakes.

"TAKE THEM AWAY!" the Queen bellowed, and half a score of lobster-waiters appeared, removing the offending biscuits.

'Tis a privilege high to have dinner and tea )

{Friday} ~ Christmas gift list (1 February; prompt from 26 November)

        Winter Bingo Challenge (at [livejournal.com profile] charloft; Prompt Card):

O4 ~ Humbug (31 January; Yes, most of these are two-prompts-with-one-piece)
O2 ~ Mummers (31 January)
O5 ~ Generosity (1 February; I also have a prose piece in the works for this prompt—but I needed to post something more quickly, so I used the list first)

Hurrah, I accomplished Winter Bingo! ^_^

It's not so bad, really, if you just take it all with a pinch of salt. (27 January, reply to [livejournal.com profile] hisrunnings) {Hurrah, another Doctor!}

Yes, I now have a Dormouse muse. In which I ramble on )

In other news, I shall have to do a bit of research in the near future: I've both a wedding (Lorina's) & a coming-out/presentation (Alice's) to plan (or at least touch on in prompts/RP) for June.

{again. ::is sheepish::

I haven't been very active of late—this wasn't much helped by my hours at work starting at seven now (instead of nine as before). I've been a week at my new schedule, however, so hopefully I'll begin to get used to it (and there will be more threading/prompt response answering). ^_^ }

{Saturday} ~ Story of my life (Take II) (3 January; prompt from 19 March)
{Twosday} ~ New Year, new you (5 January)
{Thursday drabbleprompt} ~ Cheese (7 January ... and not a drabble at all)
{Wednesday graphics} ~ A solitary tree (24 January, prompt from 11 January)

(And several brief conversations-on-posts with [livejournal.com profile] 8butterflyboy8!)

(Will be edited to add the rest after tellytiem!)

        Winter Bingo Challenge (at [livejournal.com profile] charloft; Prompt Card):

O3 ~ Baking (7 January; Yes, I'm counting these twice)
O1 ~ Solitude (24 January)

I've three more pieces to go to achieve my first bingo. I'd been thinking of writing something about the Liddell's tradition of reading A Christmas Carol in turns on the nights leading up to Christmas—and when I was linking my Solitude piece I realised I actually have "humbug" as one of my prompts! (And the "generosity" prompt will work quite well for the Alice's-gifts-for-her-friends prose piece [of possible epicness] I've been meaning to write since, oh, November.)

At [livejournal.com profile] character_rpg: we're all mad here (8 January)
At [livejournal.com profile] role_play_ads: we're all mad here (9 January; Yes, it's identical to the one above it)

And still no more interest than when I first posted in October. Sadface. (I'm half tempted to pick up the Dormouse myself. However, I've never played more than one character at once—and I doubt I'd be able to play two characters off each other.)

I really don't like asking for plugs, but if any of you know someone who might be interested, would you mind linking them? Thank you. (I've been wanting to get this started for quite a while now, but unfortunately I'm not doing well in that regard on my own.)

ETA: The proper "Story of my life (Take II)" post is now up! (I'm linking it instead of waiting for the Fortnight Post as it's quite meta & probably ought to be here on it's own as well.) ^_^
boxofcomfits: (tea-time)
I really shouldn't, especially as I'm only halfway through with the 100 Drabbles of Summer Challenge—but winter's my favourite season, & one only needs to do five of them , & they don't have to be drabbles, & there are only twenty-five prompts in all (per card) ...

Oh, bother it all.

Hope everyone is having a happy holiday season! ^_^

I meant to do a spot of RP threading tonight (especially since I have a few scenes going), but I'm getting together with my best friend tomorrow evening & I want to knit at least a portion of her she-already-knows-it's-going-to-be-late Christmas present. As such, I think I'm just going to type up this Festive Fortnight Post & then dash off to knit (also tidying).

Hmm, I thought I had more than that. Perhaps it's because I have more threading activity this fortnight that prompty things?

I also have an Alice's-gifts-for-her-friends prose piece that needs to be written .... (Also, I will be posting an advert for [livejournal.com profile] 6thngsbreakfast on [livejournal.com profile] character_rpg & possibly [livejournal.com profile] role_play_ads sometime this week.)

** Yes, this should technically be in the next Fortnight post—but it's a Christmas Party post! As such, I'm adding it to this Festive Fortnight post. (And I've probably overused "festive" a bit, hee.)
boxofcomfits: (daydream believer)
Much more activity this fortnight! Oddly enough, however, I have nothing in the way of [livejournal.com profile] dear_mun or [livejournal.com profile] sixwordstories ... but an added huzzah for reaching the halfway point in the 100 Drabbles Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] charloft. [livejournal.com profile] charloft 100 Drabbles of Summer, Part V (drabbles 41-50)

Rating: PG?
{{A/N: Halfway through! And lo, I failed horribly at completing the 100 Drabbles of Summer in the challenge's allotted time. Drabble 42 is the last drabble that officially counted; I think it rather fitting that this is the Alice returning piece. This set of drabbles also was written over a long range of time: 41 on 14 September to 50 on 1 December. Also, I didn't realise this until I actually consolidated these just now, but the majority of this batch [six!] are picture prompts. Curious. Vagueish timeline needs to be updated. Drabble table can be found here. Feedback is lovely!}}

Glee, pensiveness, & a few diversions )

boxofcomfits: (thoughtful)
I hadn't realised that this fortnight was quite this quiet for Alice. Some of it was because I was busy helping my parents get the house ready for Thanksgiving, &c. ... but I suppose I might have a bit of writer's block as well.

Two more things to add (before I nap). Thing the first: I've finally reached 50 drabbles!! (At this rate, I'll be quite pleased if I finish all 100 Drabbles of Summer by year's end, which is my new goal.) I had decided that when I had 50 drabbles written I would start posting them to Fanfiction.net in batches of ten (rather like how I've been posting them here on Alice's journal.) The problem is this: I have no idea what the overall title should be. I'll have to think on it before I post (also, I've never posted anything on FF.net before. It will be a new experience).

Thing the second. I hope I'm not starting to sound like a broken record (because I feel I am & would really hate to be annoying everyone), but do any of you know somewhere else I can advertise my Wonderland game or know of anyone who might be interested in playing? I've already posted on [livejournal.com profile] musemostwanted & have made a few [livejournal.com profile] sixwordstories posts linking to said post without much response (And this makes me a bit discouraged as I've had the comm up for around a month-and-a-half).

But now I must nap. Especially as I have choir practice later & am sleepy.

Yes, this Post of the Fortnight is quite late—one could even say that I skipped the last (scheduled) one as this is a full month after the last Fortnight post. However, I haven't been very active lately ... so if I had made two Fortnight posts, they would have both been quite wee (and this one won't be very long as it is). Also, I have a new OOC icon ::points:: I felt I needed an OOC icon of the lulzy sort. ^_^

{{It's OOC Tiem again!

I've decided that since it's November & I never have done NaNoWriMo (and do not see myself doing so in the future), I will attempt to finish my 100 Drabbles of Summer for [livejournal.com profile] charloft. My reasoning is thus: if other writers can produce 50,000-word novels (yes, I had to look up the wordcount on NaNoWriMo.org), then I ought to be able to write slightly more than 5,000 words (I have 45 drabbles posted & four which need a bit of editing before they'll be the proper 100-word length).

Once I have 50 drabbles written (and posted here & as comments to my "regular" Charloft prompt responses), I'm toying with the idea of posting them in batches of ten (similar to how I post them here) on Fanfiction.net—it has some excellent Alice fic & I would quite like to get more feedback, &c.

In musebox news, [livejournal.com profile] 6thngsbreakfast is open for business .... sort of. I only had one interested party answer my [livejournal.com profile] musemostwanted advert (a WCMI Hatter, hurrah!), so the comm is still in "looking-for-castmates" status (I posted another enabling link post on [livejournal.com profile] sixwordstories yesterday. No replies yet, however). ::crosses fingers::

And I really ought to get back into writing things for Charloft responses. I've had a post for the Favourite Words Friday List written up for ages (I was working on it for a few days, put it aside, & then finished it ... a week or so ago)—and as mentioned before, I have a few drabbles that will be posted as replies to said Friday List post (once each is actually 100 words). I think this shall be my thing to work on this week (& more knitting, yes). }}
boxofcomfits: (wistful)
{This one isn't so much a true Prompts of the Fortnight post as it is a "Prompts/threads since the last Prompts of the Fortnight post" (which was three weeks ago). I really ought to be waiting until it is properly the weekend, but I'm leaving for a weekend camping trip with my parents on Friday. Also, it's going to be a very wee post indeed (especially for a three-week Prompt Post) as I'd been spending quite a bit of time editing text, playing with layouts, &c. to get my museboxy game up. (Said game is now open at [livejournal.com profile] 6thngsbreakfast, but we only have two players so far so it's not actually running yet.) And I should probably stop typing before my A/N-ish bit becomes longer than the actual post, hee. Also, I feel I need more OOC icons. I might have to work on that.}

{The musebox is nearly officially open! I've got posts up for Possibly Asked Questions, a Cast of Characters, and the mun Contact List. Tomorrow, I shall unlock the first two posts and add my bare-bones Realm of Wonderland & its Environs thoughts (must decide on whether Truffula Forest or Meadow sounds better. Also, find a more suitable name for the Caterpillar's Forest) info (I quite hope we'll have a map at some point).

And then I shall have to post on [livejournal.com profile] musemostwanted. On Thursday, I'll put a linky sort of post on [livejournal.com profile] sixwordstories. I'd put the sws post up tomorrow (weeell, technically it'll be later today, but as I've not gone to sleep yet it's still "tomorrow." From a certain point of view, or something.), but I really must do a vaguely OOC/metaish "Happy Hatter Day!" post instead. Because it's 10/6, see? ^_^

If you'd like to look at the musebox & give me any feedback, it's over at [livejournal.com profile] 6thngsbreakfast (though the PAQ, Character List, &c. are on the OOC comm, [livejournal.com profile] ooc_teaparty). It would be greatly appreciated, especially as I'm entirely new at this game-creating/modding thing. ::worries::

Hopefully, I should be more active on Charloft later this week—I've got a post in the works (i.e. it's a Word doc) containing responses for two of the recent (for certain values of "recent") Munday prompts.

But now it's bedtiem.}}

{{I really *must* get the musebox up. Especially as I've technically had the OOC comm for over a month now (it's empty & such, but I *do* have the layout set up! No profile yet, though.)

Any thoughts?

Now, to watch Bones ...

ETA: As of now (i.e. half-midnight on technically Saturday) the musebox is up! And by this I mean that the comm has been "created"—it doesn't have a profile or layout yet (though I've a Word Doc for the former & have something bookmarked for the latter) ... but it now exists! I ended up going with 6thngsbreakfast (the "i" is in impossible or something) as beforebreakfast is already in use as a syndicated account (I gathered it's along the lines of "learn Japanese before breakfast!").

More info, linkage, &c. will be forthcoming as I work on the two comms (this one & the OOC comm). Prompt #87 ~ Return (Drabble 42)

Word Count: 160

{{A/N: [livejournal.com profile] charloft had a fantastic "Return" prompt several months ago (i.e. in the spring). I've been planning all along to write something based on said prompt to be the first post in my still-not-up-yet musebox. When the Drabble Challenge came along, I figured it could be used for both. I think it works quite well for Drabble #42, hee. Of course, I couldn't keep this one to just 100 words—Alice has been working for this the whole summer! The proper drabble can be found on the official post, but I like this expanded version much better.}}

One last attempt—if this did not work, she would stop trying, she told herself (albeit sadly). Alice perched on her dressing-table (careful not to upset any bottles or sundries) and regarded her looking-glass.

She closed her eyes, wished with all her might, and reached a hand toward the glass ...

Oh, frabjous day! The glass rippled and turned misty, allowing her hand to pass through. Alice's eyes flew open at this and she eagerly stepped forward.

She found herself not in a reversed version of her chambers—as she might have thought—but in a sort of wooded meadow. Tall purple shrubs caught her immediate attention and a pair of brightly-coloured mome raths crossed the path ahead of her.

"I'm back!" Alice beamed, then set off on the path. She had no idea which part of the Realm she was in and knew just the one to ask for directions. Where was that Cat when one actually wanted him?
